Aw snap! We just ruined the movies. Why is microwave popcorn unhealthy? Sure when air popped, this snack has whole grains and fiber which we love. What some of us don’t know is that the microwave version of it is loaded with trans fat, sodium and diacetyl. All of which are bad for you. However if you can’t watch a movie without popcorn, try using plain kernels and popping them yourself on a stove, or in the oven. Flavor it to your liking with sea salt or some jaggery powder.
French Fries and Potato Chips
Yes, of course no one can eat just one. Potato chips were always our filler snack in school. We would hide from our teachers and munch on potato chips in between class. Fries and potato chips are soaked in oil. They come loaded with cholesterol, trans fat and sodium. All of which contribute towards the clogging of your arteries. These foods are very high in calories, and contribute to that extra padding which you’re always trying to avoid. Fries are definitely one of the top 5 worst foods to eat.
Fast Foods, Pizzas, Burgers and Much More
Burgers and pizzas are some of the worst kinds of junk food out there. They contain everything you should stay away from. From sodium, to trans fats, to excessive amounts of cheese. Oh, and let’s not forget the huge amounts of oil used for frying. We know you love them, but let’s just steer clear of these two, okay?
Carbonated Drinks, Energy Drinks and Diet Sodas
Carbonated drinks contain huge amounts of sugar. By now we’ve learnt how excessive amounts of sugar can harm you. Even diet sodas contain sweeteners like aspartame which are harmful when consumed over a long time. Let’s put it this way, we all know sodas are bad for us, now you know why. Energy drinks are lethal because they contain tons of sugar, caffeine and chemicals. Replace these with green tea.
Processed Meats and Sugary Cereals
Processed meats contain high amounts of sodium, nitrates and other chemical preservatives. Processed meats are also known to increase the risk of colon cancer. Even though they are a convenient option to stuff in your sandwich for lunch, you should regulate the amounts you intake.
Sugary cereals were the ultimate breakfast before school while growing up. We always believed that cereals were a healthy start to the day. Most sugary cereals, even granola, are loaded with sugar and avoidable calories. A bowl of this stuff can easily contain 500 calories or more.
