As we grow older, joint and bone pain is something that gets to all of us. Arthritis is a problem which most of us face in our later years. Although there are many medication courses you can take to keep joint pain and arthritis at bay, you can also choose to treat your arthritis naturally through Ayurveda. Arthritis is categorized as an auto-immune disease and it results in severe joint pain. Some of the major symptoms are severe pain and swelling in the fingers, wrists, knees and legs.

Ayurvedic Oil for Arthritis

Rhuma Oil is a beneficial oil for arthritis. It is made from a combination of many potent Ayurvedic herbs and oils, some of which are castor oil, ashwagandha, haridra, Datura panchang, etc. It is generally used in external massaging and works well on cramps, joint pains, arthritis and joint stiffness. It is suggested that the affected body part should be warmed with warm water before massaging. The body part should be covered with a cloth after the massage.

Natural Remedies for Arthritis

Alternate between hot and cold therapy. Hot treatments can make a lot of difference in joint and arthritis pain. Hot showers and steam baths can release stiffness in joints. Use a heating pad or electric blanket to keep your joints warm, especially in winter.

Cold therapy to treat joint pains include using ice packs wrapped in towels and applied on the joints for instant relief.

Lose weight. The extra weight can cause excessive strain on your joints. Mainly your knees, hips and feet. Try to keep your weight in check, it will have a great impact on the amount of pain you experience because of your arthritis.

Keep exercising. Regular exercise and movement maintains flexibility in the joints. Go for less strenuous exercises like water aerobics or relaxed swimming.

Fenugreek is excellent for correcting aggravated Vata dosha which is the root cause according to Ayurveda and works as a natural remedy for arthritis. You can add fenugreek seeds in your food. Alternatively, grind the seeds and mix them with mustard oil. Apply this paste on all the affected joints. This will help them keep warm.
