Living with diabetes doesn’t mean that you cannot snack at all. You can start snacking smart with healthy low carb low sugar snacks.

Swap pita bread and crackers with cut veggies like carrot sticks, enjoy this hummus and voila! You’ve got the perfect treat for diabetics. You could even try this with broccoli, cauliflower or celery. Even though hummus could be categorized as slightly calorie-dense, it’s filled with fiber and nutrients. Eating it with veggies instead of pita bread or crackers help you keep that calorie count relatively low.

Dried Berries

This is an amazing diabetic treat is all you need, it’s sweet and it’s crunchy. Mix in some dried cranberries with almonds. Berries are known to be low on carbs. Almonds have the ability to control any kind of sugar spike. However, almonds and dried berries are both calorie-dense foods, so beware of the portions you eat with this one.

Low-Fat Yogurt with Honey

Yogurt is rich in probiotics which makes it extremely healthy for your gut. Yogurt is rich in antioxidants too. Honey is an all-rounder superfood and works great as a natural sweetener. Low-fat yogurt is rich in good carbohydrates and protein. Yogurt is a calcium-rich food which is known to reduce risk of type 2 diabetes.


Including whole grains and high fiber foods in your diet can reduce risk of type 2 diabetes. Oatmeal is packed with fiber which reduces the absorption of glucose by the stomach. This keeps your blood sugar in control.

Treats for Diabetics

  • Apples are great to curb your hunger and keep your stomach full for longer. Always eat an apple whole, with the skin as that contains most of the nutrients of the fruit. Apples help to build immunity. Apart from that it has a lower carb and calorie content than some other unhealthy snacks we would normally consume.
  • Guacamole is made from ripe avocados, it comes packed with heart healthy fatty acids. It also contains vitamin E. The plus point is, it’s extremely healthy and tastes equally good. Try having it with vegetable slices or whole wheat crackers.
  • Nut butters can manage your blood sugar and at the same time keep you full for a long time. Try going for peanut butters or almond butters which have low sugar content and no oil. This keeps the calories low as well. If you really feel like a cheat day, you can make yourself a sandwich with whole-grain bread. You can even try making your own peanut butter at home.
  • Fish is a great source of protein. This makes it one of the best diabetic protein snacks out there. Fist contains heat healthy fatty acids too. Fish is really easy and quick to prepare. We suggest baking or grilling your fish instead of frying.

If you’re looking for snacks without carbs, it’s quite a difficult task. However these foods will definitely keep the carbs and calories to a bare minimum making them diabetic friendly.
