Ayurvedic Ways to Build Immunity in Kids
There are several external and internal methods outlined in Ayurveda as immunity boosters for kids.
1. Oil Massage
Ayurvedic scriptures discuss the importance of oil massage or Snehana. The Sanskrit word “Sneha” means compassion. This means that the healing powers of massage are an extension of a mother’s loving touch. Massage is said to be one of the most potent ways to increase immunity naturally as the permeable skin of infants takes in all the goodness of the oil. This is also why Ayurveda advises massage using an herbal oil called Bala Taila. The word “Bala” means strength so this oil is meant to build strength in kids. This oil contains the herb Sida Cordifolia or Indian mallow.
2. Ashwagandha Ghee Tonic
Ayurveda stresses on the medical benefits of using ghee, clarified butter, which is obtained from cow’s milk. Ghee is also very easy for children to digest. Make an Ayurveda immunity booster with 10 gms of ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), 100 gms of ghee and 800 ml of milk. Heat the ghee for 20 seconds. Add some water to the ashwagandha powder and shape it into a ball. Place this ball into the ghee. Now, put in the milk. Continue to heat and stir the mixture till only 80-100 ml of ghee remains with the ashwagandha herb paste. Filter to preserve the ghee and discard the paste. The herb ashwagandha is a powerful antioxidant while ghee and milk provide nourishment and muscle strength. Give this to children as a tonic to increase immunity naturally.
