Oily skin can be quite a difficult skin type to maintain. There is usually accumulation of excess oil on the outer layer of skin. The excess oil is produced due to the sebaceous glands secreting extra sebum. Oily skin is generally categorized as acne prone skin as it causes adult acne. Oily Skin Treatment

Simple DIY techniques to keep oily skin at bay: Lemon, tomatoes, cucumbers and masks with natural ingredients.


Lemon is a great source of citric acid. It works as an astringent and has antiseptic properties. Lemon juice is also known to lighten blemish marks. Dilute 1 teaspoon of lemon juice with distilled water and apply on your face with a cotton ball. Leave it on for about 12-15 minutes and wash with warm water. Lemon juice can be extremely drying for the face, so make sure you use a gel-based moisturizer for oily skin right after this cleanse.


Tomatoes are another great remedy for oily and acne prone skin. They contain skin clearing and cooling abilities. They have high levels of vitamin C and contain natural oil-absorbing acids. Tomatoes can also help you de-tan as they contain skin lightening properties. Take a slice of tomato and rub in on your face, allowing the juice to seep in for around 10-12 minutes. Rinse off with cold water and apply a moisturizer immediately after drying your face.


Cucumbers are known to be very soothing and cooling for the skin. They also work as a natural astringent. They contain important vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin E which are good for oily skin.Take a thick slice of cucumber and rub all over your face. Allow the juice to seep in overnight and rinse with warm water the next morning. Practice this regularly before you sleep.

Home Remedies for Acne

Lemon and honey face cleanse: Take a spoonful of lemon juice in a bowl. Add in a teaspoon of honey. Mix well. Use a cotton ball to apply the mixture all over your face and neck evenly. Leave this on for 20 minutes and then wash off with lukewarm water. You will find your skin glowing, have reduced oil and less pimples on your face after using this regularly. The lemon will also help to reduce blemish marks.

Gram flour (Besan) and curd mix: Take 2 teaspoons of besan and 1 teaspoon of curd and mix well in a small bowl until the mix is of a thick consistency. Add in 2-3 drops of lemon and a pinch of turmeric powder. Mix well. Cleanse your face with warm water and apply this mixture evenly after drying your face. Leave on for around half an hour until the face pack has dried. Rinse with cool water and rub gently to remove the pack. While doing this, you automatically remove dead skin cells from your face. Dab with a towel to dry your face.Your skin will feel revitalized instantly.
