Good Friday Fish Recipes

It’s Good Friday and since a lot of people abstain from eating meat on this day, we thought it would be nice if we gave you a few fun fish recipes for Good Friday to work with so you can keep the menu simple yet interesting.

Baked Fish with Sour Cream

This is one of our easy fish recipes which goes well for an occasion too.

2 Basa fish fillets

2 tbsp lemon juice

¼ cup sour cream

¼ cup mayo

¼ cup chopped onion

Salt to taste

½ tsp red pepper powder

¼ cup cheddar cheese

Mix the lemon juice with 1 tbsp of water. Braise the fish with this mixture. Add in salt and pepper to this marinade. Let the fish soak in the marinade for about 10 minutes. Arrange the fish in a lightly greased baking dish. Bake at around 180°C for about 10 minutes.

While the fish is baking, add the sour cream, mayo, onions, lemon juice and salt in a small bowl. Once the fish is baked. Add the sour cream mixture over the fish with a spoon and grate the cheddar cheese on the top. Place the dish back in the oven for another 3-4 minutes until the cheese is melted. Serve hot.

Fish Fingers and Mayo Sauce

This is one of the best Good Friday recipes. Try it out, it works great with hummus.

400 gms Basa fillets, slice into 12 strips

100 gms breadcrumbs

Zest of 1 lemon

1 tsp dry oregano

1 tbsp olive oil

1 egg beaten

4 tbsp mayo

200 gms cooked peas

100 gms spinach leaves

Heat the oven to 180°C. Pour the beaten egg in a small dish. Put the breadcrumbs onto the plate. Mix the lemon zest with the breadcrumbs, oregano and some salt and pepper. Brush a baking sheet with some oil. Dip the fish in the egg and roll it in breadcrumbs. Put the fish fingers on the baking sheet and place in the oven for about 15 minutes.

Mix the mayo, squeeze in some lemon juice. Add the peas and spinach leaves and the remaining olive oil and your mayo dip is good to go.

Serve the baked fish fingers with the dip.
