Hear This About Ear Care
Many times, we may take our sense for granted, sight, touch, taste, smell and hearing. Deficits in one or any of these can cause us to reevaluate our lives because said deficits hamper our way of living. Imagine being blindfolded and simply going about your morning. In this case we are looking specifically at hearing care for your ear.
Ear care is an essential part of an Ayurvedic routine that should be practiced daily. The skin especially around the ear can be a nesting area of harmful microbes and bacteria so taking appropriate care of your ears can not only keep you clean, but help prevent harmful hearing disorders.
Ayurveda and Hearing
In Ayurveda, ear problems are caused by the drying of the skin area around the ear. There is an imbalance in the Vata dosha. The Vata dosha when aggravated can have a drying effect on the skin and ears. Therefore, the Ayurvedic cure for ear problems, or in the very least how to prevent them means pacifying this dosha. Oil is the cure for dryness according to Ayurvedic medicine in context of ear health.
Karna Purana – Ear Oiling
Place the oil in a dropper, and consider these your Ayurvedic ear drops.
While lying down, squeeze a drop each into each ear.
Gently plug your ears using your lobe and massage the oil. Perform this for roughly a minute, but if this hurts stop immediately and consult a doctor (this should not hurt).
Herbal Remedies for Ear Pain
A simple herbal ear tonic can be made with household products. Here’s how to make a tonic which can almost instantly stop ear pain.
Two cloves of garlic
Crush cloves and two tsp of mustard oil.
Heat the mixture until the cloves darken nicely.
Lastly, simply apply the mixture to the ear. This especially helps relieve pain if there is an infection due to the antibacterial qualities of garlic.
Ear problems can be caused by a host of problems ranging from sinuses and cavities, but daily personal care is no different than hygiene. Taking preventive measures is much better than resorting to treatments for infections so make sure you take care of your ears.
