If you have a pitta-kapha type constitution it means that both pitta and kapha doshas have equal strength in your equilibrium of doshas. While pitta has a hot and fiery energy, kapha is a stable and binding force. Balancing your dosha levels to keep them within the normal range of your constitution helps to maximize your potential and preserve your health. Significant increases or decreases in levels of any dosha can throw off this balance, giving rise to disease. This makes it important to understand your constitution and the strategies needed to support your unique doshic makeup.

Physical Traits:

Pitta-kapha type individuals would be loosely characterized as mesomorphs with a moderate body structure and size. However, they are well-proportioned with shapely and moderately muscular bodies. Although there is a tendency towards lean sinewy muscles, you can easily bulk up with little effort. Body weight can also fluctuate considerably, but you are unlikely to tip heavily towards either end of the scale. Your facial features are probably striking with sharp, but gentle curves and medium to large-sized eyes.

Your skin complexion and tone can vary somewhat, with a pitta predominance giving you a more rosy complexion, while kapha predominance can result in pale skin. Skin texture is likely to be normal, but may lean towards being oily. Your hair type is also well within the normal range and soft, but could be straight or wavy. Your normal body temperature makes you easily adaptable to most environments, but you probably have a preference for regions with lower humidity levels.

Psychological Traits:

The fiery and energetic nature of pitta is at contrast with the stable and binding energy of kapha. This has a significant influence on your temperament, which means that although you are intelligent and persevering, you can be stubborn and self-indulgent at times. For the most part however, pitta-kapha type individuals are well-balanced and show a high degree of patience. To avoid imbalances and minimize internal conflicts, it is imperative that you temper your ambitious nature with some amount of routine and consistency in life. Perfectionism can pose a problem that leads to feelings of inadequacy and low self-worth. If not checked this can lead to a downward spiral into depression.

Health Risks:

The fiery strength of pitta tempered with the stabilizing influence of kapha creates a healthy digestive fire or agni. As is the case with many of us, you may take this for granted and overindulge. This is a common problem with pitta-kapha type individuals, who sometimes develop minor eating disorders and weight fluctuations. You may also be vulnerable to skin diseases and heavy perspiration that can cause foul body odor. Ama levels or toxins may buildup in your system, exposing you to other health risks, making cleansing routines particularly important.
