If you have a vata constitution it means that vata dominates the dosha balance in your body. Vata comprises of the elements of ether and air and it influences movement or mobility, as well as communication. Balancing your dosha levels to keep them within the normal range of your constitution helps to maximize your potential and preserve your health. Significant increases or decreases in levels of any dosha can throw off this balance, giving rise to disease. This makes it important to understand your constitution and the strategies needed to support your unique doshic makeup.

Physical Traits:

Vata type individuals would typically be characterized as ectomorphs as they tend to be taller or shorter than average, with slender or skinny frames. As a vata type individual, you are also more likely to have a hard time gaining weight.

Vata types tend to be taller with slender frames

Your skin tone and complexion is likely to be on the darker side with a tendency to tan easily, but it could be vulnerable to dryness and cracking. Because of the cold nature of vata, a dominance of vata in your prakriti is likely to impact body temperature, giving your skin a colder touch than most people. These characteristics of vata will also influence hair type, with a general inclination towards dry, thin, and frizzy hair.

Psychological Traits:

The qualities of vata will dominate your outlook and attitude, which means that you are likely to be adventurous and free-spirited. Vata type individuals are averse to stagnation and love change or variety in life. They are intrinsically creative and adapt to changing situations and relationships with ease. Unfortunately, as a vata type person, you may also be more vulnerable to anxiety and worrying.

Health Risks:

It is important to exercise caution if vata is your dominant dosha, as high levels of this dosha are associated with more risks than any other dosha type. Aggravation of vata dosha can increase the sensations of dryness and pain, causing significant discomfort. It also adversely impacts digestion, increasing your risk of bloating, gas, flatulence, and constipation. Vata type individuals can also have greater vulnerability to body aches and pains, with joint diseases like arthritis and osteoporosis being common. Sleep disorders like insomnia are not uncommon in vata types and you should avoid putting yourself at further risk of such conditions.
